As with all your loved jewellery, care should be taken when wearing and storing your semi-precious stone jewellery as some semi-precious stones can be susceptible to chipping, scratching and breaking. Some semi-precious stones can also be damaged by chemicals and water and some are even affected by sunlight. The latter category includes amethyst, ametrine, aquamarine, aventurine, citrine, rose and smokey quartz which have been known to fade following prolonged exposure to sunlight.
STERLING SILVER
Like most precious metals, sterling silver will tarnish over time however this is likely to happen less quickly if it is regularly worn. Sterling silver can be cleaned and polished with a soft cloth and like all jewellery, should be carefully stored in a jewellery box. Silver, like gold, can be damaged by chlorine and should not be worn when using chlorine or bleach.
GOLD VERMEIL
Gold vermeil requires a little care and attention. Always take off your gold vermeil jewellery when applying perfumes or lotions or ideally put on your gold vermeil jewellery last when getting dressed. Gold vermeil jewellery should always be removed in the shower or when swimming as chlorine, particularly at high temperatures, can permanently discolour or damage gold vermeil. Gold vermeil can be gently cleaned using a soft polishing cloth and like all jewellery, gold vermeil should be carefully stored in a jewellery box.
